Freedom

John 8:36 (NIV) if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

If this Scripture is correct, why do so many Christians appear to walk in defeat? Let's be clear on one thing - the Scripture is correct and true. So what is the answer to this question, why do so many live in defeat?

Luke 6:47-48 (NIV) I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. {48} He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.

The Tower of Pisa is a good example of the importance of strong foundations. By the time it was completed in 1373, because of weak foundations, the 57 meter tower was already leaning. For the next 600 years the tower gradually leaned more and more until it was finally closed to tourists in 1990 for fear that it would topple. Twelve years of restoration work and twenty-seven million dollars later, the tower is again open to the public. Its foundations have been strengthened and its lean is permanently fixed at 4.1 meters.

So that our lives do not lean and eventually fall, we need to establish strong spiritual foundations. So what I plan to do over the next few months is to ensure that our foundations are strong and biblical. Among other things, we are going to look at such issues as:

Transformation: How God Changes People

The Cross: What God Did for Me

Identity: What God Thinks about Me

Victory over the Curse of the Law

Victory over Relational Dysfunctions

Victory over Spiritual Error

Victory over Addictions

Biblical Foundations
